MONCARAPACHO

Beaches

Although Moncarapacho is not a beach resort, holiday makers will have access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Holidays in Moncarapacho mean that the white sand beaches of Tavira, Fuezeta and Pedras del Rei are only a 15 minute drive away. These are beautiful beaches with nearby bars and restaurants and a great range of water activities are available.

Rural Market Town

A holiday in Moncarapacho is all about relaxation, hot sunshine and the amazing scenery. The rural market town of Moncarapacho is nestled between the ocean and the Sierra de Moncarapacho mountains. The views are simply stunning and strolling around the little winding streets and stopping off at pavement cafes is a pleasure in itself.

Day Trips

Day trips from Moncarapacho should include the historic town of Tavira. The town was under Arab rule between the eighth and thirteenth centuries before its conquest by the Knights of the Order of Santiago in 1242. It became a city in 1520 and was the main trading port in the Algarve between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.

With its uncrowded endless beaches and architecture dating back centuries, this is the perfect place to spend the day sightseeing. Be sure to visit Tavira island for one of the most dramatic and beautiful beaches.

Spending the day at the Formosa Natural Reserve will reward holiday makers with some amazing bird watching opportunities or the chance to take trips around the area. Some thirty thousand birds of a wide range of species pass through the park each year on their migrations north or south.

Activities

The surrounding countryside is perfect for holiday makers to take long bicycle rides, and horse riding is also available in the Moncarapacho area. Other activities around Moncarapacho can include cruises around the coast or diving, sailing, jet-skiing and surfing at nearby Fuezeta. There are also a number of first class golf courses in the area and nearby Vilamoura boasts six courses. Excellent golf courses are also available at Colina Verde and Castro Marim.

Dining Out

There is a good range of dining options available in Moncarapacho. From sunny garden restaurants serving traditional Portuguese dishes to little pavement cafes with a more family feel. Restaurants and bars in Moncarapacho become the focus of the evening once the sun sets and the staff will welcome customers back like old friends.
